A cute, modern close-up take on a beloved classic
Hip Hop Nope and Hip Hop Classic bring a beloved stage classic into close-up, with two charming, solid-wood rabbits and a surprise finish.
At first glance, the premise is simple: you have two wooden rabbits—one black, one white—and two hollow covers, one topped with a black hat and the other with a white hat. The white-hatted cover goes over the white rabbit, and the black-hatted cover goes over the black rabbit. Everything is clear. Everything is fair.
With a flick of the wrist, you lift the covers. Instantly, the rabbits have swapped! The white-hatted cover now hides the black rabbit, and the black-hatted cover hides the white rabbit. A perfect visual transposition.
You offer to do it again, but this time, you deliberately mismatch them. You place the white-hatted cover over the black rabbit and the black-hatted cover over the white one. You spin the blocks slowly… once… twice… three times. When you lift the covers, they have swapped back: the white rabbit is beneath the white hat, and the black rabbit is beneath the black hat.
The kicker is yours to control.
At this point, your spectators are convinced they have it figured out. “The rabbits must be double-sided!” they shout. “The back of each rabbit must be the opposite color!”
You can feign ignorance, spinning the blocks wildly and refusing to show the backs.
Finally, with a shrug, you give in.
With Hip Hop Nope, the back of one rabbit simply reads “NOPE.” The other reads “NOT HERE.”
With Hip Hop Classic, the surprise comes from the original colored backs.
